Chief Data Officers need to modernize their data governance programs and processes, and data executives want to leverage artificial intelligence and machine learning for efficiency and deeper insight, but often data leaders have questions about where and how to tactically apply AI and ML. BigID hosted a Data Governance Summit to bring together executives from different industries who are all tackling data governance to share their experience and helpful tips with our data community.

Krishna Cheriath, VP of Digital Data and Analytics from Zoetis shared his top ten essential tips for data governance and a three point plan for success to establish a sustainable data governance program. Listen to the replay to hear Krishna explain how Trust is the new disruptor.

Prisca Doh, Advisory Data Governance Lead at eMoney and Wendy Turner-Williams, VP of Information Technology and Strategy at Salesforce joined Krishna in an interactive panel, Leveraging AI and ML to deliver a Data Governance Program. The panelists discussed topics including:

  • how to structure and prioritize a data governance program
  • how to leverage AI and ML for automation
  • trust and ethics
  • balancing stakeholder priorities
  • how they handle challenges like data quality, tagging, and lifecycle management

Krishna, Prisca and Wendy agreed that data governance benefits from AI and ML in all stages from data discovery and understanding, to ensuring the best quality data for business decision making, to managing the data lifecycle.

“Applying AI and ML is a huge opportunity for data practice because there’s not enough data-stewardship human-capital to attack the quality challenges. It can only be achieved through a human-machine combination.”

-Krishna Cheriath, VP of Digital Data and Analytics, Zoetis

Jacklyn Osborne, Data Quality Control Executive at Bank of America and Juan Riojas, Chief Data Officer at Rackspace held a session about priorities and insights from various CDO roles – and why meaningful data governance and strategy needs to align to business priorities and use cases. Listen to the replay to hear how they transformed organizations that were ‘data rich, insight poor’ to be data-driven organizations.

BigID’s data intelligence platform uses AI and ML to solve these challenges: there is too much data in an organization to successfully manage data governance with human power alone.

BigID’s Discovery-in-Depth foundation enables data executives to know their data and gain deep insight and context around high-value data. Once data owners know their data, they use BigID apps like data retention, data quality, and data remediation to take action on the data. Each application provides automation to solve a problem for data governance.

The Data Summit closed with a fantastic keynote from Martha Cummings, who talked about Delivering Value in Uncertain Times. From Martha, we learned about surviving, transforming, and finding opportunities in crises – and the role of data. As we have all experienced various challenges in 2020, Martha’s keynote was a reminder of the turmoil over the last year, and what we can learn from that experience. Listen to Martha’s keynote for a perspective on why data roles are essential, and applying lessons from risk management in banking to environmental and social challenges.

If you missed the live Summit, check out the replay and share it with your colleagues.
