There are a number of uncertainties businesses in the U.S. are facing right now. Everyone’s simultaneously dealing with a global pandemic, a recession, a volatile political climate ahead of a national election and the next civil rights movement.

As chaotic as all of that is, nothing has interfered with the progress of two evolving data privacy regulations designed to protect the privacy of consumer information. Enforcement of the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA), which took effect at the start of the year, officially started July 1. Meanwhile, the latest provision of the New York SHIELD Act took effect this past spring.
