Why should the business own remediation?
The business holds the context that remediation depends on. Security teams can reach the data, and data owners know what it is, why it exists, and who should have access to it. BigID puts the decision with the owner, alongside the file, its location, and the policies it breaks, so the answer arrives in minutes and security keeps the policy and the audit trail.
What is delegated remediation?
Delegated remediation sends each sensitive data finding to the person best placed to act on it. BigID finds the data, assigns it by policy or owner reference to a business data owner, a security analyst, or an agent, delivers the decision with full context, applies the chosen action, and rescans to verify.
How does it support data democratization?
Each owner is accountable for the data they are responsible for. Owners see and decide on their own findings, in the tools they already use, and BigID records who decided, what changed, and when. Security sets the policies and sees the whole estate, while responsibility for the data sits with the people who use it.
Which parts of remediation does BigID automate?
Assignment, deadlines, reminders, routing, the action, and verification. BigID reads the owner from an Owner Reference attribute or Active Directory, starts an SLA when it assigns the work, sends notifications, routes reviews and approvals, applies the action against the data source, and rescans to confirm. After a grace period you set, a preset action can apply automatically when an SLA passes.
Can security still act directly on findings?
Security analysts can review findings and act from BigID whenever a finding calls for it. Delegation is switched on per policy and data source, so each kind of finding follows the path that fits it, and both paths share one platform and one audit trail.
What actions can BigID take, and on which data?
Encryption, deletion, labeling, move, masking, redaction, access revocation, and blocking, with archive, restore, and exceptions alongside. Remediation covers both structured and unstructured data.
Do we need Jira or ServiceNow to use it?
BigID can run the whole workflow itself, or work through Jira and ServiceNow. It handles assignment, decision, action, and verification on its own, or integrates with Jira and ServiceNow so tickets, reviews, and approvals follow the workflow your teams already run.
Where can people approve and act?
In BigID, ServiceNow, Jira, Teams, Email, or Slack, and on a single-use magic link or the BigID mobile app on iPhone. Each shows the file, where it lives, the policies it breaks, and the recommended action, and each decision is applied back in BigID.
Can agents handle remediation?
BigID can delegate remediation work to agents. Agents work under the same policies, approvals, SLAs, and audit trail that apply to people.
Does the data owner need a BigID account?
The magic link works without a BigID login. It is single-use and expires the moment it is used. The link offers the same remediation options available in BigID, and the decision is applied back to BigID.
How do we know a remediation worked?
BigID rescans the object and records the result. The audit trail and Audit Dashboard show each action, who took it, and when, and reports export to CSV or PDF for auditors.
